July 18, 2006 APPROVED

Present: Amelia, Luis, Gil, Dev, Lemlem, Vini, Laura (for Aileen), Kris, Sharahm, Anthony, Mary B., Nick, Annie, Sepideh, Joe, Brian, Mary P. Absent: Nobody Facilitator: Tracy

I - Announcements/Agenda/Administrative

Approved July 11th minutes with one modification: Joe moved to absent from present.

Requested copy of apprenticeship program "e-mail etiquette document" for PC review regarding possible similar document for the PC list serve and its use.

Checked in regarding representative constituencies and status of election/selection processes for PC representatives. Unpaid staff election is pending confirmation of "new unpaid staff list". LSB is responsible for electing its own PC representatives and replacing or re-upping community representatives. Both items are on the LSB agenda. Current representatives will continue to serve until their constituencies replace or re-up them for an additional term.

II - On-Going Programming

Alfredo Kuba w/Animal Rights Radio was delayed by auto trouble and his meeting with the PC has been rescheduled for the August 1st meeting.

Hard Knock Radio/Arbitron presentation to include Davey D, and Tracy will re-schedule with Davey for presentation time at an upcoming PC meeting. (Tentatively scheduled for August 22nd PC meeting pending final confirmation).

PC discussed the initial two proposals: Law and Disorder Radio and Third Coast Live. Law and Disorder had enough initial positive response to he held over for final vote on 8/15. Third Coast Live did not, and was eliminated by consensus. Facilitator to contact Third Coast Live producers and let them know the result.

III - Evaluations

America's Back 40: The Hicks from Coast to Coast renewed for the standard contract. Program Council had extensive conversation regarding the programs' blend of "Americana", a loose subset of American roots genres ranging from folk, country, bluegrass, alternative country, rockabilly, neo-traditional country and roots rock, as well as American swing. There was concern the term "hicks," referring in common usage to uneducated, unsophisticated white people, could work against the inclusion of others, and recognition that the musical format, tied as it is to American history, should be presented consciously on KPFA.

IV - Special Programming

August 26th - Approved the annual coverage of the Vallejo Jazz Festival by consensus.

Black August programming has been proposed from 8-12pm the same evening. Vini to advise PC on proposal status at the 8/1 meeting.

Adjourned @ 8:05pm
